High-temperature superconductors (HTS) have reached commercial maturity and present an opportunity to change the way superconducting magnets are built and used. CFS and MIT are collaborating to develop the next generation of superconducting magnets, which involves the procurement of large volumes of HTS tape to wind the magnets. CFS is ramping up its internal superconducting magnet production capabilities and is looking for a Magnet Technician.
This team member will:
- use electrical and mechanical test equipment to characterize HTS critical current at high fields and low temperatures, both with small samples and reel-to-reel systems;
- perform maintenance on HTS characterization equipment;
- work with engineers to set up and maintain superconducting magnet subsystems (cryogenics, power supplies, and control systems);
- contribute to the production and quality control of magnet winding and fabrication;
- maintain the cleanliness and organization of the HTS test and magnet fabrication labs; and
- be part of a group within CFS developing the capabilities to produce superconducting magnets.
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
- associate's degree or higher in a technical field is preferred;
- at least 2+ years experience in a variety of technical support skills, including machining, welding, soldering plumbing, electronics, cryogenics, and electrical;
- operated high-power industrial test equipment unsupervised;
- at least 1+ years experience working with magnetic devices;
- the ability to take directions from supervisors and work independently;
- the ability to stand for long periods of time - bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position;
- the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted;
- a commitment to safety and quality; and
- the desire to work in a fast-paced, startup R&D environment.
CFS team members thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have demonstrated exceptional results through a range of different pursuits. We all tightly align with our company values of integrity, execution, impact and self-critique. As we grow, we are looking to add talented people who are mission driven and bring diverse perspectives and new ways of solving problems.
At CFS, we deeply value diversity and are an equal opportunity employer by choice. We consider all qualified applicants equally for employment. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, protected veteran status, religion, physical or mental disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, or any other basis protected by law, ordinance, or regulation.
