A Day in the Life as a Consultant...
As a Consultant, you will assist the Government Affairs team on all client-related activities that cover many different industries including tax, financial services, energy, healthcare, industrials, transportation, and TMT. In this role, you will develop in-depth knowledge of clients' objectives and challenges in order to assist them through current regulatory situations and prepare them for future issues. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Client Delivery
• Serve as one of the day-to-day client contacts on select accounts; manage the overall quality of work on multiple accounts and government affairs initiatives by demonstrating professional and team leadership
• Play a role in the research, planning and development of comprehensive communication and governmental strategy programs
• Manage client expectations and participate in preparing new business presentations
• Write and edit a variety of materials (e.g., memos, legislative analysis, press releases, presentations, emails, pitch decks, , and web content)
• Create client-ready deliverables in a timely and efficient manner including
• Provide strong project management
• Identify resource needs and work with managers to assign individual responsibilities
• Support billing procedures to ensure timely and accurate delivery of client invoices
Business Development
• Maintain solid relationships with clients
• Work with managers to help clients assess their program needs
• Actively participate in the generation of Strategic Communications new business proposals and presentations
Practice Leadership
• Consistently seek ways to improve client service
• Participate and be willing to play a role in strategic initiatives
• Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues
What Are We Looking For?
• Bachelor's degree required in Communications, Public Relations, Public/Government Affairs, Marketing or a related field
• 1+ years of communications agency and/or state/federal government experience, including strong internships
• Must have a solid grasp of government affairs/lobbying, public affairs, public relations, including traditional media relations experience, as well as digital and social media program management experience
• Must possess superior research, public policy, writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and concise analysis of legislative bills, hearings, markups, etc. and deliver those report to various clients
What Else Are We Looking For?
• Demonstrated development of a professional network and experience with media contacts and Capitol Hill Experience with popular blogging tools, publishing software and other social media platforms (i.e., Twitter) required
• Proven project management skills and the ability to proactively support/counsel key client relationship
• Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to effectively juggle multiple client projects
• Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic team environment with regular change
• Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
• Understanding of Associated Press Style Guidelines
• Ability to use legislative databases
• Strong understanding of the legislative process
