InGenesis is currently seeking an Oncology Nurse Clinician to work with our client. In this role, you will deliver proficient patient care to adult cancer patients in various settings, including outpatient clinics and infusion centers where chemotherapy is administered. The Oncology Nurse Clinician will use the nursing process to competently perform patient assessments, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals, planning and implementing interventions, and evaluating patient care outcomes. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient and family needs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, psychosocial evaluations, and medication history.
- Provide consultation and coordination throughout the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
- Communicate with patients to schedule procedure, provide preparation instructions, and follows up with referring physicians on procedure status.
- Facilitate dose modification by assessing the patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
- Administer all medications/blood products using the correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other complex IV medications, adhering to strict safety protocols and sterile techniques.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatment and implement appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients and their families on the management of the disease process and the actions and side effects of medication or treatment.
- Assist patients in finding support through available community resources.
- Provide direction and support to vocational nurses and medical assistants.
- May triage patient phone calls and document relevant information in the patient's medical chart.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Serve as a resource for LVNs and Medical Assistants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
- Two (2) years of Clinical RN experience, prior experience in oncology.
- Active RN license or valid temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Texas, permanent license must be obtained within 90 days.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Two years of clinical RN Oncology Nursing experience.
- Ambulatory Oncology experience in the last two years.
- Oncology Nursing Certification.
- Completion of moderate sedation course.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
