Cross Dock Driver

Job Summary

Responsible for driving and safely operating a truck with (1) a gross vehicle weight capacity greater than 10,001 lbs. and (2) either drives across state/province lines or drives parts that cross state/province line (continuous string of commerce). Delivers company transfers and customer orders. Work may include manually loading/unloading the truck, delivering company transfers and customer orders, verifying products, obtaining confirmation signatures from the receiving location, and traveling to and/or from the warehouse or cross-dock location. Must be open to working a night-time schedule.

Essential Job Duties
  • Drive truck to transfer product between locations, wholesaler and drop box locations in outlying Transportation of product is usually made over long distances via interstate/inter-provincial, crossing state/province lines. The driver may operate within state/province lines, but the product continues to travel outside state/province lines once delivered to the location.
  • Pickup truck at the warehouse/cross-dock and may load truck according to safety standards and to ensure product integrity.

  • Drive to the destination and may physically unload the truck, verify parts unloaded, obtain the signature of the receiving location confirming the accuracy of parts shown on the order and those received, and sign off on the integrity of what was loaded at the location.
  • Make proper notations on the manifest or provide credit memos on parts being returned to the locations, wholesalers, and drop boxes.
  • Pick up stock purchase orders or buy out purchase orders from vendors on vendor "fill in" purchase orders and bring parts back to the location.
  • Complete the check-in process when returning to the location to verify parts and

  • Comply with established company policies and procedures.
  • Initiate and support the continual improvement of LKQ's quality improvement program.
  • Pass random drug testing as required.
  • Successful completion of annual training as assigned.
  • Operate in compliance with applicable rules and regulations set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

  • Not responsible for supervising employees.
Requirements

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3+ years of related experience required; Still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills; Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of commercial driving and warehouse related
  • Accredited commercial driving school
  • CDL Class A license (EZ Driver license for Canada).
  • Must be fully DOT qualified, possess a valid driver's license with the proper endorsement for driving a commercial vehicle of at least 10,001 lbs.
  • or greater, and have an acceptable driving
  • Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) testing and physical requirements and be knowledgeable of DOT regulations.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must comply with state and local mandated requirements as well as Department of Transportation ("DOT") and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration ("FMCSA") regulations.


Preferred Requirements
  • No Preferred Education Required
  • Forklift certified preferable


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Frequent use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics, Ability to create, maintain and incorporate functions into Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, databases, and Powerpoint presentations to support business objectives.
  • Regularly uses moderately complex oral and written May train others in functional areas, interact with others and make presentations to department or middle management.

Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to drive a vehicle most of the time.
  • Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time); use hands to operate machinery.
  • May need to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, reach, climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent exposure to contaminants such as fuel or May occasionally wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
  • May need to work in cramped spaces that could require getting into awkward positions.
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, extreme lighting, and high noise levels.
  • Daily travel will be required by drivers making deliveries and extensive overnight travel may be required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
