Job Duties

•Examining, diagnosing, and treating or prescribing courses of treatment for eligible beneficiaries suffering from diseases, injuries, or disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as diagnosing related systemic conditions.

•Co-managing post-surgical eye cases and ocular complications of systemic illnesses in an in- and out-patient setting.

•Serving as a consultant in optometry (primary eye care) for other health care professionals in the MTF.

•Promoting prevention and wellness, vision conservation, education, and training activities, vision screenings, and positive eye and vision health behaviors.

•Prescribing drugs appropriate for ocular therapy and in accordance with allowances/limitations of the contract optometrists active state ophthalmic therapeutic license.

•Obtain adequate history, physical, assessment, and develop a treatment plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient.

•Provide medical advice and/or consult with consultants as needed over the telephone.

•Complete all required paperwork/documentation of care provided.

•Document all patient encounters in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable MTF rules, regulations, and policies.

•Advise the clinic chief of any problems encountered or anticipated in connection with meeting the needs of patients treated.

Minimum Qualifications

•Education: Graduate from a school or college approved by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric Association.

•Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support

•Experience: Possess a minimum of one year experience actively practicing as a full-time optometrist during the last year

•Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an optometrist from any one of the United States of America, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. License needs to be maintained in good standing and free of disciplinary/enforcement action.
