About The Role
As a prototype wirer, you will wire, solder and build prototype units utilizing schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering sketches and verbal instructions. In this resourceful role, you will be crafting devices and physically bringing ideas into real life.
What You Will Do
- Wire, solder, fabricate and assemble prototype units
- Build PCBs (printed circuit boards) and subassemblies using schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering sketches, and verbal instructions
- Rework orders (as necessary)
- Fabricate vector board circuits and enclosures from engineering sketches
- Work with sheet metal and polycarbonate material utilizing available machine shop hand and power tools (ex: table/band saws, brake, punches, etc.)
What You Need
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years' experience in an R & D environment
- Surface mount assembly and rework experience is preferred
- Able to utilize schematics, blueprints and wiring diagrams, ability to identify components
- Excellent soldering skills and sheet metal experience
- Strong communication skills
- Proficiency in reading schematic/assembly drawings and assembly and/or rework of printed wiring boards
- Proficiency with small hand and power tools
Our good faith estimate of the wage range for this role is $26 - $32/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a full benefits package.
Spellman Takes Safety Seriously
All new hires are required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID at start, or must request and be granted a religious or medical exemption.
Work involves frequent lifting of materials and products up to 50 pounds. Technicians work with units that produce high voltage, which may also produce x-rays. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment not limited to:
- eye safety glasses
- hearing protectors
- work boots
- hardhats
- facemasks
This position requires on-site presence at Spellman High Voltage Headquarters in Hauppauge, NY.
