We seek a talented, motivated, creative, and experienced encapsulation materials and processes Staff Engineer.
For this important role, our expectations are to support various engineering, Quality, manufacturing and supply chain activities related to the use, characterization and qualification of encapsulation/potting materials and associated manufacturing processes and equipment when used in our products.
What You Will Do
You will be immersed in the multi-functional team comprised of Engineering, Operations and Quality members, and will work with experts on the team to address all topics and issues related to existing encapsulation materials, processes and equipment as well as to collaborate on the identification and implementation of new encapsulation materials and equipment for existing and new product lines. Further, you will support the maintenance and optimization of existing SHV encapsulation equipment while also generating related process and procedure documentation, consulting with and providing guidance on related issues across all SHV sites as needed. You will work across department boundaries to lead and support process improvement opportunities in your area of expertise and provide guidance as related to new product development.
Responsibilities
- Plasma etch equipment: Process verification and new process development.
- Epoxy behavior: Curing processes, molding, and especially determining root cause of problems.
- RTV potted multipliers: Evaluate failures to help figure out root cause.
- Support maintenance of encapsulation processing equipment when unusual problems arise and help identify problem root cause and related lessons learned.
- Consultant for all SHV sites regarding potting and oil processes.
- Technology upgrade: Responsible for designing/upgrading potting and oil machines.
- Lead Design of Experiment (DOE) efforts related to oil and potting on new processes, process improvements, and material qualifications
- Lead for DFM efforts as it relates to potted and oil for new product designs
- Support the training, coaching and development of technicians and engineers in the filed of encapsulation materials and processes
- Identifying and documenting all critical processes and machine operations to ensure overall process sustainment and continuous improvement
- Participates in technical design reviews in accordance with established New Product Development and Introduction processes.
- Support manufacturing and quality departments on newly released products.
What You Need
- BSEE or equivalent education.
- 10+ years of experience in the selection, characterization and implementation of high voltage encapsulation materials, processes and equipment for high voltage electronics
- Hands-on experience and expertise in encapsulation equipment and technologies.
- Experience with high voltage power supplies (10kV and higher).
- Very good understanding of potting materials behavior and chemistry when applied to high voltage electronics (thermal, mechanical, dielectric, curing, viscosity, pouring, plasma etching...etc.).
- Well organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills

This position requires on-site presence at Spellman High Voltage headquarters in Hauppauge, NY. International travel is required
