AV Rack Fabrication Technician

Overview

The role of the AV Rack Fabrication Technician is to pre-build racks ahead of installation. This work will be done in our Glen Burnie Office and involves inventory of equipment and materials, construction, quality control and testing completed ahead of time. Although this role is mainly an in-house position, there will be occasions where rack fabrication support will be required at a jobsite.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for equipment rack fabrication for projects in accordance with wiring diagrams and standards for quality assurance.
  • Install components in rack according to engineering drawings.
  • Install cabling according to engineering drawings within the rack between components.
  • Able to read engineering drawings and follow directions.
  • Build custom wiring harnesses from engineering drawings, which includes soldering, crimping, and assembling cable connectors as directed.
  • Builds custom stock cables and tests for workmanship.
  • Maintains rack fabrication build sheets for inventory used, including serial numbers, MAC addresses, firmware versions, and IP addresses if static.
  • Responsible for inventory asset accuracy and physical inventory discrepancies between system records and actual count.
  • Building, labeling, testing and shipping preparation for all client A/V rack cabinets sent through Rack Fabrication.
  • Review A/V documents provided by engineering staff to ensure appropriate documentation and design specifications are made available.
  • Act as primary liaison between A/V Engineering Staff, Project Managers and Warehouse related to rack builds and equipment procurement.
  • Closely monitor information queues for all fabrication requests.
  • Ability to perform basic system component assembly (rack mounting) of electronic devices and install cabling according to company standards.
  • Ability to power up and do basic test of device functionality.
  • Must be able to obtain DOT to drive box truck to assist with deliveries when needed.
  • Build custom wiring harnesses from engineering drawings, which includes soldering, crimping, and assembling cable connectors as directed.
  • Effectively applies our methodology and enforces project standards.
  • Communicate with the warehouse of when items are arriving and making sure they are properly signed out.
  • Assist in in house production and quality control.
  • Read and evaluate rack elevations and drawings and communicate to engineering any potential issues.
  • Power management.
  • Signal separation and cable management.
  • Red line drawings and document any changes to system design.
  • Mock up A.V systems for testing and programing.
  • Communicate of needs in both consumables and stock to A.V. Purchasing department.
  • Communicate project status and projected completion of projects to project manager and install manager.
  • Organize and maintain shop area and inventory.
  • Organize and maintain project bins/manuals.
  • Will be responsible for signing out A.V stock to specific jobs.
  • Prepare materials to roll to the field when testing is complete.
  • Oversee the burn in process for monitors and projectors.
  • Some travel is required.
  • Other Duties as assigned by AV Operations Manager.


Qualifications

  • HS degree required, college degree preferred.
  • Above average proficiency in MS Office, specifically MS Excel.
  • Highly organized, and effective with personal time management.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate in a direct, concise manner in both verbal and written interactions.
  • Above average cross functional team skills.
  • Proactive and results-oriented.
  • Highly dependable.
  • Customer service/focus.
  • Uncompromising attention to rack building detail in maintaining standards that exceed industry standards.
  • Must be able to read engineering drawings (or learn how to) and follow directions.
  • Prior experience in the integration of audiovisual, video conferencing and closely related technologies preferred.

  • Self-starter, self-sufficient and self-motivated with the ability to maximize efforts daily without supervision.
  • Requires valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to perform tasks which may require lifting 40lbs or working in construction environment with ladders and machinery operating.
  • US Citizenship, ability to obtain access to US Military bases and Government facilities for projects which require background clearances.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the installation and commissioning of audiovisual systems.
  • InfoComm CTS certification is highly preferred.
