A Day in the Life as a Senior Consultant...
As a Senior Consultant in the Government Affairs practice, you will take an active role in supporting the day-to-day management of all client-related activities that cover many different industries, with a primary focus in supporting our financial services work. In this role, you will be responsible for managing both up and down within account teams to appropriately service client engagements. You will develop and execute government relations strategies to deliver results and meet client expectations, draft documents for client use, and provide perspective to clients on political developments as such pertains to federal agencies, Capitol Hill, and in limited instances the states. Additional responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
Client Delivery
- Serve as one of the day-to-day client contacts on select accounts; manage the overall quality of work on multiple accounts and government affairs initiatives by demonstrating professional and team leadership
- Conduct meetings with policymakers and regulators
- Write and edit a variety of materials (e.g., memos, legislative analysis, talking points, presentations, emails, pitch decks, and web content)
- Demonstrate an understanding of client information, including business strategy, services, stakeholders, and competitive landscape
- Help guide business development and support the growth of our financial services client base
- Deliver high-quality work focused on client and business development needs
- Create client-ready deliverables in a timely and efficient manner
- Take a proactive approach and anticipate client needs
- Counsel clients about industry, government, political, company, and market developments
- Identify resource needs and work with managers to assign individual responsibilities
- Support billing procedures to ensure timely and accurate delivery of client invoices
Business Development
- Maintain solid relationships with clients and FTI colleagues across the FTI network
- Proactively identify opportunities to grow existing client business, as well as new client opportunities
- Actively participate in the generation of new business proposals and presentations
- Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues
Practice Leadership
- Consistently seek ways to improve client service
- Anticipate potentially difficult situations and be able to evaluate strategies and alternatives with senior management and autonomously
- Demonstrate a willingness to take responsibility for outcomes and to assist others when needed
- Effectively manage competing demands for time
- Identify resource needs and work with managers to assign individual and group responsibilities
- Help clients identify and escalate risks in order to act and communicate with integrity
- Understand and live by FTI's values, Code of Ethics and the Strategic Communications Rules of Practice, and work with junior staff to embed these concepts within the firm's culture. What Are We Looking For?
- Bachelor's degree required in Communications, Public Relations, Public/Government Affairs, Marketing or a related field, or equivalent experience from time at a federal agency or on Capitol Hill.
- 3 years or more years of federal government experience and/or work in industry on policy issues or at a similarly situate think tank or nonprofit.
- High proficiency and experience within government affairs/lobbying, public affairs, public relations
- Deep subject matter expertise and policy experience form time on Capitol Hill or at a federal agency.
- Possess superior research, public policy, writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and concise analysis of legislative bills, hearings, markups, etc. and deliver those reports to various clients
- Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s)

What Else Are We Looking For?
- Demonstrated development of a professional network and experience working on Capitol Hill
- Ability to use legislative databases
- Strong understanding of the federal legislative and appropriations processes
- Proven project management skills and the ability to proactively support/counsel key client relationship
- Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to effectively juggle multiple client projects
- Experience leading small teams and people management experience
- Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic team environment with regular change
- Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
