What You'll Do

A successful Senior Director in the Crisis & Litigation Communications practice will take a leadership role in the development and management of communications programs related to a variety of matters, including crises, crisis preparedness, sensitive corporate announcements, operational incidents, government investigations and litigation support, among other sensitive, sometimes urgent situations. As part of a team, the Senior Director will oversee the development and execution of multi-stakeholder communications activities, many of which require knowledge of media, legal, technical, and financial issues. The Senior Director is a primary client counselor and must be able to function as the onsite leader for project teams. The Senior Director helps clients identify and escalate risks in order to act and communicate with integrity. How You'll Grow

The Senior Director manages account teams and projects, leveraging in-depth knowledge of clients' objectives and challenges to oversee the design and implementation of innovative strategies to assist them through event-driven communication challenges and position them for the future. This position will also take an active role in helping clients overhaul their crisis management infrastructure, build and implement crisis management plans and conduct crisis simulation drills. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Develop strategic proposals and communications plans for clients and new business prospects
  • Serve as a primary client contact, providing strategic counsel directly to clients in meetings, conference calls and while working on client sites
  • Oversee project management and document development to ensure deadlines are met and objectives are achieved
  • Anticipate client needs and concerns and work to proactively to address them
  • Drive new business pursuits, including the development of thought leadership, identification of business prospects and ongoing networking on behalf of the firm
  • Support team training and professional development and serve as a performance manager to select junior staff
  • Manage profitability and utilization on multiple projects and accounts

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years of strategic, financial and/or corporate communications experience in relevant roles serving clients and developing new business
  • Ability to advise and secure confidence of senior communications and C-level client contacts, as well as other outside legal and financial advisors
  • Excellent organizational skills and written and verbal presentation skills
  • Proven project management track record and comfort managing and working with staff at all levels
  • Proven track record in crisis preparedness, including assessing clients' state of readiness and potential risks, designing crisis management plans and crisis communications strategies, and conducting crisis tabletop and simulation exercises
  • Prior experience in cyber security incident response communications and cyber preparedness preferred
  • Prior media relations experience, including developing and executing media strategies intended to mitigate or balance negative coverage, as well as raise awareness
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and a service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work under pressing deadlines across multiple projects and portray calm in the face of difficult situations to clients and other team members
  • Track record of managing communications with multiple stakeholders (investors, employees, customers, media, etc.) during a variety of crisis and litigation scenarios
  • Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s)
