The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.
Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The NCI Cancer Imaging Program (CIP) fosters advances in in vivo medical imaging sciences through support of basic and applied research in cancer imaging as well as promotion of imaging in clinical trials to gain greater understanding of the pathways of cancer biology for the benefit of cancer patients and people at cancer risk.
The Cancer Imaging Informatics Lab conducts a number of cutting-edge imaging informatics activities on behalf of CIP. The lab manages The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA - http://cancerimagingarchive.net) with the objective of increasing the public availability of high-quality cancer imaging datasets for research. TCIA supports the data sharing requirements for the cancer imaging community to expedite novel discoveries via access to high quality datasets while simultaneously raising the bar for reproducibility in research. Lab services create a culture of open data sharing and collaboration among cancer imaging researchers. The Lab also tackles imaging informatics projects related to radiology and histopathology imaging data de-identification and curation, and image analysis (e.g., AI/ML/radiomics).
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the data submission and helpdesk operations of The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA http://cancerimagingarchive.net), a government-funded public repository of cancer-related imaging data
- Coordinate the Advisory Group review process for new dataset proposals to potentially be published on TCIA
- Manage TCIA data submission and publication operations by working closely with multiple teams performing de-identification, curation and publication of open-access datasets for research consisting of imaging (radiology, pathology) and related supporting data
- Ensure efficient utilization of TCIA personnel/resources by leading weekly status meetings and monitoring submission team and helpdesk team performance metrics
- Identify areas for process improvement, prepare presentations for management, implement solutions to address bottlenecks
- Communicate feature requests and site improvement requirements to be incorporated in quarterly deliverables to subcontractors who develop and implement TCIA's system architecture
- Ensure TCIA helpdesk is operating smoothly, and help resolve any problems that cannot be addressed by tier 1 & 2 support staff
