ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Consultant in our Financial Service Public Affairs practice. As a Consultant, you will take an active role in supporting the day-to-day management and execution of financial services client accounts.Consultants primarily support team members on public affairs and strategic communications advocacy campaigns, including communications and messaging development, cultivating relationships with members of the media, writing press pitches, performing research, media monitoring, and development of client deliverables. In so doing, the Consultant will learn the processes and gain the expertise necessary to service and advise clients, with a particular emphasis on strategic communications and public affairs. A Consultant must keep up-to-date on key financial services policy issues and current developments in the industry.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Client Delivery
- Assist in the research, planning, and development of comprehensive strategic communications and public affairs advocacy campaigns
- Write and edit a variety of client materials (e.g., memos, press releases, presentations, emails, media reports, media pitches, social media posts and content, etc.) under the direction of senior team members
- Prepare daily media monitoring reports and track priority legislation
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with members of the media
- Write media pitches, press releases and op-eds
- Develop and maintain media lists for clients and specific targets
- Demonstrate an understanding of client interests, including business strategy, stakeholders, policy issues and politics
Business Development
- Maintain solid relationships with clients including identifying new ways to engage on core issues and create new opportunities for clients to advocate for key priorities through events, meetings, and partnerships, aside from traditional media tactics
- Develop, maintain and grow relationships with key Beltway media reporters and outlets to assist clients' Washington amplifications
- Work with managers to help clients assess their program needs
- Participate in the generation of new business proposals and presentations
Practice Leadership
- Consistently seek ways to improve client service
- Strong communications skills, development and ideas to enhance clients' needs
- Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues
- Contribute to the professional development and performance review process for interns, as needed

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant industry or field, such as Communications, Public Relations, Public/Government Affairs, or Political Science
- 1+ years' work experience, including internships, at a public affairs agency, on Capitol Hill, in an Administration or agency, trade association, think tank, campaign, public relations, media, or another relevant field.
- Demonstrated interest in financial services and the key issues facing the industry
- Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Superior writing, editing, and researching skills
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail and a positive service-oriented attitude
- Excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal presentation skills
- Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s)

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task, deadline-oriented dynamic environment with regular change
- Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to effectively juggle multiple client projects
- Solid grasp of government affairs/lobbying, public affairs, communications, public relations, including traditional media relations experience, as well as digital and social media program management experience
- Political acumen gained through work on political campaigns or Capitol Hill
