About the Consultant Position
As a Consultant in FTI Consulting's Healthcare & Life Sciences segment, you will take an active role in supporting the day-to-day management of client accounts.
Consultants primarily support team members in the execution of communications programs ranging from public affairs campaigns to corporate reputation and financial communications programs for client companies. Consultants help the team execute client work through activities including research, monitoring, writing and development of client deliverables. Consultants also help provide perspective to clients about internal, peer, and market developments as they pertain to the media, political environment and the market; and regularly plan for media interaction and converse with journalists, policymakers, investors, and other key stakeholders.
In so doing, the Consultant will learn the processes and gain the expertise necessary to service and advise clients ranging from startups through Fortune 500 companies on a range of company events, milestones, and complex policy, regulatory or business issues. A consultant must keep up-to-date on key issues and current events in health policy, financial and capital markets, and in the health care industry at-large.
Responsibilities/Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Client Delivery
- Play a role in the research, planning, and development of comprehensive communication programs
- Deliver high-quality work within project teams focused on client needs
- Write and edit a variety of client materials (e.g., memos, communications plans, press releases, presentations, emails, media reports, media pitches, social media posts and content, etc.) under the direction of senior team members
- Support tasks related to media relations, crisis communications, investor relations, content marketing, and communications campaign management - all of which require an interest in research and writing
- Prepare daily media monitoring reports; monitor industry developments, priority legislation, financial markets, healthcare industry trends, peer companies, client stock movements and for media coverage
- Demonstrate an understanding of client interests, including business strategy, stakeholders, policy issues and politics
- Perform detailed and accurate research to underpin all client projects and deliverables and formulate opinions or recommendations based on findings
- Incorporate both quantitative and qualitative analysis and work with senior team members to make recommendations for companies' messaging and outreach strategies
Business Development
- Maintain solid relationships with clients
- Work with managers to help clients assess their program needs
- Provide tactical support to team members developing new business initiatives (e.g., conducting research on prospects, reviewing PowerPoint presentations and proposals, and more)
Practice Leadership
- Maintain a self-driven passion to stay abreast of client issues and related industry trends, participate in industry networking events and inform team leaders of potential new business opportunities
- Consistently seek ways to improve client service
- Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues
- Contribute to the professional development and performance review process for interns, as needed
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity and ask the necessary questions to manage firm and client data responsibly
- Understand FTI's values, Code of Ethics and the Strategic Communications Rules of Practice and demonstratesa strong commitment to applying these concepts in daily interactions with colleagues and clients. What Are We Looking For?
- Bachelor's degree in in communications, journalism, English, political science, public policy, public health, marketing, economics or other relevant field
- 1+ years work experience in communications, investor relations, politics, public policy, or public health
- Demonstrated interest in healthcare and life sciences
- Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Superior writing, editing, and researching skills
- Intellectual curiosity
- Ability to stay well organized, remain adaptive under pressure, and manage multiple project timelines and deadlines effectively while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly and possess a service-oriented attitude
- Ability to absorb constructive feedback and grow from a variety of experiences
- Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s)
