About the Opportunity
We are currently recruiting an Analyst for our Washington, DC office to join our International Arbitration practice. Analysts plan and perform rigorous qualitative and quantitative economic analysis, interacting closely with other analysts, PhD economists, and case supervisors. Responsibilities include all stages of project work, from conducting research on wide-ranging economic and valuation topics to analyzing data, financial modeling, and synthesizing conclusions with input into expert reports in newsworthy international arbitration proceedings. Analysts collaborate with team members in global practice offices, including Buenos Aires, New York, London, Houston, and Washington D.C., and are exposed to respected lawyers, investors, and Global 1000 companies in diverse industries. Compass Lexecon seeks candidates with strong academic records and excellent analytical skills for the Analyst position.
Primary Duties
- Identifying the range of sources of relevant information, both quantitative and qualitative, needed to address complex economic and financial issues specific to the case
- Targeting information from identified public, proprietary, and/or case-specific sources
- Interpreting information, demonstrating sound analytical judgment and critical thinking
- Conveying first conclusions to economists and case supervisors, and contributing to the overall development of concepts for expert reports
- Expanding the scope of research and analysis with the guidance of supervisors
- Drafting compelling and dynamic presentations for potential or existing clients
- Combining written and verbal arguments with effective visual presentation of data
- Drafting memoranda summarizing market, industry, company, and economic information
- Participating in client and team meetings and conference calls
- Demonstrating awareness of broad research goals of the case, proactively communicating data, information, and inconsistencies to case managers and economists
- Preparing experts for testimony, demonstrating knowledge of the case, main arguments of parties in dispute, and case strategy
- Bachelor's degree in Economics or Finance/ Math / other quant intensive majors accepted
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience is preferred. Internships will be taken into consideration
- Interest in Financial Analysis
Preferred Skills
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative research and analysis
- CFA Level 1 a plus
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment handling multiple tasks and demands
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to work within a collaborative team environment
- Strong written communication skills
- Knowledge of corporate finance and valuation
- Mastery of a second language a plus
