AV Systems Engineer

Overview

This position serves as the engineering interface between the presales team and delivery team, reviewing functional system descriptions (Proposal & Scope of Work) to identify any design gaps for RFI's before creating system schematics, wiring diagrams, rack elevations, RCPs, and the Bill of Materials. Production Engineering is the cornerstone of the design process and the first step in quality assurance to verify the proposed solutions meets the client requirements before creating the engineering collateral that drives procurement, rack fabrication, programming, field installation, and test acceptance.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Translate customer requirements into functional system designs
  • Develop engineering and architectural (RCP/Floor Plan) drawings and calculations
  • Review pre-construction design and documentation
  • Assist with technical design, pricing and identify any logistical challenges
  • Generate functional system drawings and rack elevations
  • Identify all cabling and miscellaneous material needs
  • Design wall plates and overlays
  • Provide material and labor estimates for change orders, when required
  • Provide engineering support to project installation team when needed
  • Project Manager liaison for engineering inquires
  • Meet with vendors/prospective vendors to help evaluate products
  • Post sales project consultation

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Broad knowledge of AV Systems engineering and/or design experience.
  • Experienced with creating AutoCAD system and MS Office proficiency .
  • Knowledge of AV over IP technology and topologies.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve complex system problems
  • Advanced computer skills as required for the design and configuration of AV equipment
  • Ability to work and think independently and ensuring to meet deadlines
  • Must maintain a neat and organized work area

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • 5+ years of AV system engineering in a similar role.
  • 3+ Years of proficiency with AutoCAD (Current version).
  • 3+ Years of architectural design work supporting AV.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the integration of AV, VTC, and related technologies .
  • Above average proficiency in MS Office for reporting and documentation of activities.
  • OEM Vendor certifications (Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp, Planar, etc.)
  • HS Diploma, Community College or Technical School Graduate (or work experience equivalent)
  • CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D (preferred, but not required)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Travel may be required in MD-DC-VA Metro area.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • US Citizenship. Ability to obtain a Public Trust or DOD clearance is a plus, but not required
