The Optical Scientist/Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing new optical systems for next generation of ophthalmic medical devices. This person will carry out a variety of tasks including optical systems design, optical component selection, opto-mechanical analysis, and technical feasibility analysis. The person will also play a key role in analyzing system costs, building prototypes, and evaluating imaging performance to create novel ophthalmic medical devices.
Education & Experience
- MS in Physics, Optics, Optical Engineering with four years of relevant industry experience; or PhD with 0-3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Highly skilled in using optical design tools such as ZEMAX, OSLO, or Code V.
- Experience with Ophthalmic imaging systems and/or Optical Coherence Tomography is a plus.
- Experience with medical device early stage product development, feasibility prototyping, and good documentation practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Firm grasp of optics, imaging, and system design fundamentals.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to find creative solutions to difficult problems.
- Must have good oral and written presentation/communication skills.
- Individual must be able to work independently as well as in a team-oriented and goal-oriented manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively (written and verbal) across multiple locations and teams
