Managing Director, Financial Communications

About the Role

We are currently looking for a Consultant to join our Financial Communications team in our New York office. You will primarily support team members in the execution of financial communications consulting programs in a variety of industries. By doing so, you will learn the necessary subjects and processes to service and advise clients. You will conduct research for Investor Relations projects and converse with junior members of the investment community when required for research or to obtain occasional feedback, if appropriate. As a Consultant, you must keep up-to-date on key issues and current events for their clients, as well as generally in the financial markets and relevant industries.

In FTI Consulting's Strategic Communications segment, we provide our clients with a comprehensive view of strategic communications that leverages our integrated suite of services, including financial communications, corporate reputation, transaction communications and public affairs in all the major markets around the world.

What You'll Do
  • Have a thorough understanding of each client's business and investment thesis.
  • Be able to obtain detailed feedback from institutional investors and work with senior team members to translate the commentary into useful advice for clients.
  • Perform detailed and accurate research to underpin all client projects and deliverables.
  • Assist team members in helping clients develop corporate messages and position themselves to relevant stakeholder groups.
  • Incorporate both quantitative and qualitative analysis and work with senior team members to make recommendations for companies' messaging and investor outreach strategies.
  • Monitor research and report on broad financial markets, industry trends, peer companies, client stock movements and media coverage.
  • Have a firm understanding of each client's shareholder base and sell-side analyst coverage.
  • Complete targeting processes and set up institutional investor meetings for clients.
  • Contribute to the development of a strategic plan for clients' overall investor relations programs.
  • Help research best practice policies and programs.
  • Draft client materials such as press releases and presentations under the direction of senior team members.
  • Handle the logistics surrounding the distribution of press releases, set up of earnings conference calls and webcasts, etc.
  • Work within Strategic Communications Financial Communications Practice network and utilize resources to leverage prior relevant work for new projects that arise.
  • Continuously build out the Financial Communications Practice's market intelligence function.
  • Assist Financial Communications Practice leaders to advance Strategic Communications standing in the field of Investor Relations.
  • Provide tactical support to team members as needed, including conducting research for new business pitches, etc.
  • Work with colleagues to produce new business pitch materials.
  • Efficiently utilize reference tools including Factiva, FactSet, Capital IQ, Bloomberg, EDGAR and AlphaSense.
  • Keep up to date with major stock market, business, economic and regulatory news.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and asks the necessary questions to manage firm and client data responsibly.
  • Understand FTI's values, Code of Ethics and the Strategic Communications Rules of Practice and demonstrate a strong commitment to applying these concepts in daily interactions with colleagues and clients. Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Finance, Business, Economics, or Mathematics, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working in sell-side research, equity asset management, or investment banking.
  • Experience analyzing 10-k documents, earnings reports, investor presentations and other public company financial data.
  • Proficient in either Capital IQ or Factset systems or both.
  • Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s).
