A new class of high-field superconducting magnets will enable the SPARC tokamak to demonstrate net energy from fusion for the first time. As part of that effort, we are also embarking on a project to develop a world-class capability to produce high-temperature superconducting (HTS) wire. To execute this plan, we are now looking to add a Instrumentation Engineer to our growing team in Milpitas, CA.
This team member will:
- Work within a multi-disciplinary and proven team of top scientists and engineers
- Own the design of key sub-systems such has AC Distribution, DC Distribution, I/O System, Interlocks, Sensors and Motion Control
- Specify and maintain interfaces with other engineering subsystems
- Report on and be accountable for project progress to the Head of Superconductor R&D
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
- A master's or higher degree in applied physics or relevant fields;
- A detailed experimentalist with good analytical skills;
- The ability to conceive novel solutions to challenging problems;
- Experience with the design and construction of optics-based sensor/instrumentation systems for process control and/or material characterization;
- Familiarity in the principles and usages of modern photonic devices (e.g., diode lasers, photodetectors, etc.) and traditional optical components (e.g., spectrometers, optical filters, etc.);
- Skill in CAD software for optomechanical designing, and LabView for data collection and processing;
- Knowledge of vacuum deposition processes (e.g., thermal evaporation) for the production of semiconductor and/or HTS materials highly helpful;
- An exceptional safety record and attention to detail;
- Familiarity with engineering systems in challenging environments
Additional experience and/or qualifications:
- Thermal evaporation processes and the methods of rate control
- Physical Vacuum Deposition (PVD) processes
- Thin film thickness measurement methods
- Optical pyrometry, and other thermal measurement methods
CFS team members thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have demonstrated exceptional results through a range of different pursuits. We all tightly align with our company values of integrity, execution, impact and self-critique. As we grow, we are looking to add talented people who are mission driven and bring diverse perspectives and new ways of solving problems.
At CFS, we deeply value diversity and are an equal opportunity employer by choice. We consider all qualified applicants equally for employment. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, protected veteran status, religion, physical or mental disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, or any other basis protected by law, ordinance, or regulation.
